The Transgender Manifesto

1.  I have a Right to Identity
    I know who I am.   I resist and reject efforts to make me who I'm not.

My True Gender was written in my heart, mind and soul when I was born.  Don't satisfy your needs by trying to make me into someone I'm not.

2. I have a Right to Privacy
    Keep out of my underwear.

My biologic details are private and irrelevant.

3. I have a Right to Dignity
    Diversity means evolution.

Respect my special gifts and insight.  Allow me to reach my full potential.

4. I have a Right to Health
    I'm a normal healthy human being.
    I demand medical care that keeps me that way.
    I demand skilled physicians that do me no harm.

My identity is not a disease.  Excellence in medical care promotes my health and welfare through appropriate hormonal and surgical intervention.

Imagine you're filling out a questionnaire for medical research or a census form.  The form asks the question, Are you homosexual?    How do YOU arrive at an answer to describe yourself?  What criteria do you use?

Or, you're in a lounge and a friend mentions that they're Gay.  What image enters your mind about them?

...Please don't comment on the term homosexual itself.  Reality is, that term IS used institutionally by our society.

...The question refers to ALL sub-categories of the community:  Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Intersexual, Transgender, etc.  What attributes determine Gay vs Straight;  Lesbian vs Straight;  Bisexual vs Straight?

...The question is about YOUR definition of the term, not about what CAUSES homosexuality, or any moral values one might connect to the community.

Here are some sample possible answers:

1.  A person's homosexual if they felt--anytime in their life--even the slightest twinkling of interest  for a person with similar genital appearance.

2.  A person's homosexual if they--anytime in their life--ever had sexual intercourse with a person with similar genital appearance.

3.  A person's homosexual if they--anytime in their life--ever had sexual intercourse with a person with the same number of Y-chromosomes, regardless of genital appearance.

4.  A person's homosexual if they REGULARLY have sexual intercourse with a person or people with similar genital appearance.

5.  A person's homosexual if their closest, dearest lifelong friend has (or had) similar genital appearance--whether or not they actually engaged in sexual activity.

6.  A person's homosexual if they feel that they are.  lt's about inner feelings and has nothing to do with actual behavior.

7.  A person's homosexual if they feel most comfortable & secure when they're around other "homosexuals".   It's membership in a community, and has nothing to do with actual behavior.

8.  Any person I don't like is a homosexual.  It's more about my mood than their actual behavior.

...And no waffling!  You've got to put SOMETHING on that form.  What do you put and how did you decide?
